Every day I seem to come across an article or comment that does nothing but solidify the idea, in my mind, that we are living in a dystopian nightmare as bad or worse than anything depicted in a fictional context.
In her article in Rolling Stone, China's All-Seeing Eye (new window), Naomi Klein explores the surveillance society being set up within China, how it is being financed and supplied by American corporations (despite laws and sanctions put in place to prohibit such surveillance and policing technologies from being transferred after Tiananmen Square (new window) in 1989), and how it is coming to a city near you.
If you read the sidebar articles and discussion included with the article, a bleak picture emerges: No matter who gets voted into office this November, it likely won't matter one bit as far as the march of Big Brother is concerned - since the government is no longer the ones in control of it. The multinational corporations, amoral and non-representative of our society despite being composed of its members, are running the show, now.
