I wrote this primer for those out there who may need some extra visual and written explanation to the assembly manual which is included with the Basic Stamp 2 OEM kit (new window) from Parallax.

This isn't to say that the manual is inadequate for the task: It is very well written and easy to follow. However, it tended to skip a few details, which might cause someone with slightly less experience to be put off from assembling the project. This primer intends to address these missing details, in an attempt to give better guidance to those who have purchased the kit and wish to complete it successfully.

Once assembled, you have a great looking and practical device for prototyping any design in which a microcontroller would help to simplify parts count or increase levels of customization:
