My last major non-robotic project (which is by no means completed, unfortunately) has involved the complete rearrangement of my office here at the 'garage, but it is one that I absolutely needed to do in order to tame the insane mess that is my office library. I managed to increase my linear bookshelf footage by about 20 feet or so, which is a fairly big improvement. Sadly, I can easily see filling these shelves in short order...
My office also become more "livable" with the changes I made: Before, I had an L-shaped desk which filled the room due to its positioning in such a way as to allow me to face my door, but now I have moved the desk into a corner, and the room opened up massively. I now have open floor space for a myriad of tasks where I need room to spread out.
Later, I need to do an upgrade on my workstation, as it is showing signs of age. The processor speed and amount of RAM are both OK (to be honest, I could use more of both, and that will likely be a part of my upgrade path). Where I really fall down is hard drive space (I only have a 20 GB PATA IDE installed). My OS is also showing its age - I run Mandrake 10.1, and I have kept it as up-to-date as possible, but its starting to become impossible to install certain things (for instance, Firefox 3 requires libraries which as far as I can tell, would require me to perform a cascade upgrade of dependencies - one of which would be the latest KDE - it would be better just to upgrade the system as a whole).
Even so, I do plan to get back to my robotics development. But my laziness (and tiredness from the office remodel) have been keeping me down lately. Don't worry, though, I do plan on returning to it. In the meantime, I will post other things, and the occasional status update like this article.
Have fun!
